Endometriosis may be linked to the risk of iron deficiency through chronic systemic inflammation or heavy menstrual bleeding. No longitudinal studies, however, have examined the relationship between endometriosis and the risk of iron deficiency. Iron deficiency is a major global concern that mainly affects women of reproductive age and children younger than 5 years. It has a considerable impact on maternal and child morbidity and mortality.
